A Letter From Our President:

50 YEARS GROWING THE GAME

WOLVES LACROSSE ASSOCIATION

The 2024 lacrosse season marks the Wolves Lacrosse Association’s 50th Anniversary. It’s time to reminisce and celebrate the incredible journey and legacy that we have established in growing the Game. From humble beginnings to remarkable achievements, every goal, every save, every win, every loss, every heart-pounding moment has shaped us into the family we are today. As a player, parent, or volunteer with the Wolves, you will become part of our history commemorating 50 strong years of promoting, developing, and participating in the Creators Game called lacrosse within our community. Since that first face-off (which I can proudly say I took) at the Sackville Arena in 1974, the Wolves can now boast being the longest-established minor lacrosse association in Eastern Canada. Throughout those years many great players, coaches and volunteers have come and gone yet their love and commitment to the sport continues to thrive with those today that carry the torch. To our past thank you and to our future, we welcome all to experience the fun and excitement the game has to offer.

As a young enthusiastic player putting on that first Sackville Minor Lacrosse Jersey, I knew this was going to be something special. Recruiting my friends and school classmates to play (some of whom had no clue what lacrosse was) helped establish that cornerstone in building a foundation. Although neither past presidents, Ray Nielson and Brian Thompson, played the sport, they truly started the Wolves brand with love, hard work, and commitment. Their mentorship and leadership prepared me to step in and take the reins so that special tradition would continue. As a player and later as a coach, I was able to guide our Wolves (previously known as Sackville Lakers) in league play, tournaments, such as the NS Lobster Trophy and the Garnet Knight Memorial, and even a couple of National Championships before provincial teams were organized. The Wolves Lacrosse Association hosted the first National Championship on the east coast with the 1986 Founders Cup played at the Sackville Arena.

Though the game has seen many ups and downs, the Wolves continued to provide opportunities to expose the game to our youth. Our vision never wavered from the objectives our past organizers envisioned. I have never been prouder to carry forward my mentors’ spirit and to be part of this legacy. To all players, parents, coaches, volunteers, and fans, whether you’ve been with us a while or are just joining the Pack, your support fuels our passion for the game. To celebrate we have partnered with a local supplier to show that passion with awesome Wolves 50th Anniversary Apparel.

So, join us in making history again! RUN WITH THE WOLVES
